Itinerary
Day 2
Head to Sigiriya
After a fantastic breakfast, head to Sigiriya, one of Sri Lanka's most important historical sites. The ancient palace and fortress complex, called the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ is of tremendous archaeological importance and attracts many tourists each year. It is likely Sri Lanka's most popular tourist destination.
After a long journey, you could be exhausted. Take a drink and unwind in the Habarana hotel.
Day 3
Travel to Anuradhapura in the early morning
Have an early breakfast, and head to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's historic capital. It is a UNESCO- designated world heritage site and holds religious significance for the Buddhist population. Buddhists visit Anuradhapura once a month on the full moon Poya Day to worship and contemplate. Some must-see attractions include Jetavanarama Dagoba, Anuradhapura Moonstone, Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Tree, and Kuttam Pokuna (Twin Ponds). These attractions should not be missed since they are a tale in nature.
Walk into Dambulla Cave Temples in the evening
The biggest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka is this cave monastery, a sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries. It has five sanctuaries, and essential elements include the 157 sculptures and the Buddhist fresco paintings.
Return to the hotel, and don’t forget to take a dip in the pool before your stay ends.
Day 4
Visit Polonnaruwa
After breakfast and make your way to Sri Lanka's second-oldest monarchy. The Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka includes the must-see location of Polonnaruwa, which is 2 hours from Sigiriya and 4 hours from Kandy. It is worthwhile to travel here from Sigiriya and experience the wonders of Lions Rock.
Admire the Kandy spice garden
Next stop is the Kandy Spice Garden, where you will learn all about the herbs, how they develop and grow, and what use they have for people. One of the mesmerising experiences for every guest is the typical habitat and serene quality of the spice garden.
After the exploration, make your evening great by beginning your stay at the Cinnamon Citadel.
Day 5
Explore the Peradeniya Garden
Yet another day of exploration will begin with the visit to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden. A wide range of plants, including endemic and extinct wild species, can be found in the gardens. The orchid collection there is renowned. There are more than 4000 plant species in the garden, including palm trees, spices, orchids, and medicinal plants. It has the ‘National Herbarium of Sri Lanka’ attached to it.
Admire the Temple of the Tooth Relic
The relic has been significant in local politics since the beginning, as it is said that whoever controls the relic controls the country's government. Historically, Sinhalese kings had the relic, and it is a World Heritage Site principally because of the Temple and the relic.
Finally, unwind and relax for the rest of your day and get ready for more adventures tomorrow.
Day 6
Train ride to Nuwara Eliya
As exciting as it sounds, the train journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya is the most admirable. Witness some amazing landscapes during the ride and arrive in Nuwara Eliya, also known as 'Little England.’ It is a beautiful hill station created by the British looking for a cooler temperature. It is well-known for its tea plantations and for being Sri Lanka's primary tea production centre.
Adore Queen Victoria Park
Queen Victoria Park is in the heart of Nuwara Eliya and is a must-see attraction. This park was named to commemorate Queen Victoria's 60th Jubilee Coronation in 1897. Initially, the park served as a research field for the Hakgala Botanical Garden.
Visit Gregory Lake
Every traveller should see this magnificent lake in Nuwara Eliya. The lake's spacious tourist lodgings, which promote leisure activities like boating and jet skiing, are just one of many pleasures, so don't miss it.
Admire the Hakgala Garden
The Hakgala Botanic Gardens was created in 1861 to experiment with and promote Cinchona horticulture in Sri Lanka. The gardens in the hill country among Sri Lanka's tea estates in the Nuwara Eliya district are located along the Badulla Road, 9.5 kilometres southeast of the popular tourist destination of Nuwara Eliya. Like a lone giant, this considerable rock climbs to nearly 2,200 m behind the gardens and the adjoining forest reserve. The gardens take the form of many terraces on the lower slopes of the rock and face the Uva Valley, over which spectacular views of the Madulsima and Namunukula mountain ranges are viewed in the distance.
Explore the Galway Land Bird Sanctuary
It is one of Sri Lanka's most important birding destinations. This park was created to protect the montane ecology. The Dull-blue Flycatcher, Sri Lanka White-eye, and Yellow-eared Bulbul are all endemic highland birds. Birds that migrate include the Indian Blue Robin, Pied Thrush, and Scaly Thrush. Bird watchers and nature enthusiasts should take advantage of a visit here.
Nuwara Eliya Tea Tour
One of the most beautiful activities in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, is to visit the renowned Pedro Tea Estate, one of the city's many tea estates. Pedro Tea Estate allows visitors to wander among the verdant tea farms and even learn about the complex processes involved in making tea.
After a long day of exploration, spend the night at The Araliya Green Hills and relax.
Day 7
Visit Horton Plains National Park Trek
After breakfast, go trekking to Horton Plains National Park. The park offers breathtaking climbs beneath Kirigalpotta and Totapola, Sri Lanka's second and third-highest mountains. It is the only park in Sri Lanka that allows visitors to embark and go for a walk in the wild.
Yala night is here. Check in to Cinnamon Wild for your stay in Yala, surrounded by the jungle.
Day 8
Jeep Safari to Yala National Park
Start your day jumping on the jeep to explore the Yala National Park, which is home to over 215 bird species, including at least seven endemics and 44 different types of mammals. Residents include beautiful elephant herds, one of the most significant numbers of elusive leopards, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted deer, and crocodiles.
Yala is also a pleasant place for birdwatchers, with bee-eaters, lovely hornbills, junglefowl, golden orioles, black-winged stilts, brahminy kites, painted storks, grey herons, purple herons, Indian darters, stone curlew among its many bird species. You might also think about visiting nearby Bundala National Park, which is renowned for its birdwatching,
After a long day at the National Park, head back to the hotel and enjoy your last night in Yala before the beach break begins.
Day 9
Discover Galle
Head your way to Galle, which has a lengthy history of colonisation, with the Portuguese having the most noticeable impact. The Dutch Fort Remains at Galle, built in the 17th century, is breathtaking. There are several dining establishments, coffee shops, gift shops, and churches to discover in the area, which is a tranquil and welcoming neighborhood.
Go Stilt fishing
Stilt fishing is a traditional type of fishing practised by local fishermen in Sri Lanka, particularly on the southern coast. Fishermen perch themselves on cross-shaped beams and wait for their catch of the day with perfect balance and incredible patience!
Relax at Hikkaduwa
On Sri Lanka's southern coast, Hikkaduwa is only 100 kilometres south of Colombo. Its stunning beaches, extensive restaurants, and hotels make it a popular tourist destination, and the town offers a wide range of local and international activities. It is one of Sri Lanka's top beach holiday spots, with an island temple, tsunami museum, and turtle sanctuary.
After a long journey, check in to The Cinnamon Bey (5 star) and take an evening stroll on the beach.
Day 10
Bentota Beach
Dip your toes in the azure, salty sea to ease the travel tiredness. The Beach is one of the most incredible places to visit in Bentota since the calm seas are perfect for water activities like jet skiing, windsurfing, and parasailing. The few eateries and coffee shops close by the sand make it convenient for you to refuel.
Day 11
