Itinerary
Day 2
Visit Fisherman's Bastion first thing in the morning.
Fisherman's Bastion is a lovely structure with a castle-like appearance. Only constructed in the late 19th century, it was never used as a castle.
Being the first to reach this prevalent viewpoint in the morning is a remarkable experience, as is viewing the city from above when it is drenched in the early light.
Move to the Matthias Church
The vibrant and stunning Matthias Church is located directly behind Fisherman's Bastion. It should be no surprise that this building has a rich history, given its vividly coloured tiled top, intricately decorated interior, and stunning architecture.
Matthias Church, which dates back to the 13th century, has hosted notable events, including royal marriages, the coronations of two Habsburg Kings, and 150 years as a mosque.
Using the funicular, descend Castle Hill.
The Castle Hill Funicular is the quickest and possibly most entertaining way to get from the top of Castle Hill, where you see Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church, to Budapest's famous Chain Bridge. The funicular, which was once constructed in the nineteenth century as a mode of public transit, is currently only used to carry visitors up and down stunning Castle Hill.
Cross the Chain Bridge by strolling.
Budapest's Chain Bridge is second in terms of fame only to the Hungarian Parliament building and is undoubtedly the city's most iconic structure.
The Danube, Parliament, Margaret's Island, and several other bridges and landmarks of Budapest can all be seen from here as you cross the bridge, replete with its majestic lion statues.
Cityscape as seen from Castle Hill and Buda Castle
A lesson in architectural history is learned at the Castle District. Most of Budapest's historic districts and the Danube can be seen from Castle Hill's summit. The restored 19th-century complex features numerous neo-renaissance-style theatres and exhibition rooms.
Explore the Hungarian Parliament
The most prominent structure in Hungary, the Hungarian Parliament Building, was finished in 1904. Views of the enormous building across the Danube River give it its most stunning appearance. The exterior, adorned with statues of several historical figures, almost resembles a gigantic card castle from a distance.
Mount St. Stephen's Basilica's towers.
You'll hear the name St. Stephen a lot in the city because it was named after the first king of Hungary. The interior of St. Stephen's Basilica is stunning, and the rooftop offers stunning views—and, in an unexpected turn, St. Stephen's right hand.
Without a doubt, St. Stephen's Basilica offers something of interest to practically everyone.
It is suggested to climb the tower if you have the time, but bear in mind that there are still stairs involved in the elevator alternative, so anyone with mobility concerns should generally refrain.
Discover Andrassy Avenue
Andrassy Avenue begins close to St. Stephen's Basilica and travels northeast to Heroes' Square. You will pass numerous upscale stores, cafes, restaurants, and significant cultural landmarks. Large trees that line the streets block your view of the expensive villas.
Swim in the Szechenyi Thermal Baths to recharge.
Szechenyi Thermal Baths in Budapest are the biggest and most well-known of the city's hot springs. The capital city of Hungary is home to at least 80 hot springs. Discover the park's other attractions, such as the zoo, botanical gardens, and museums. Get a geothermal bath to relax your legs and warm up your muscles.
