- Memphis has several fine art museums, including the Brooks Museum of Art and The Belz Museum (Asian and Judaic art).
- Dixon Gallery and Gardens, founded in 1976 and offered both new and permanent exhibitions, is equally prestigious.
- The latter is notable for its Impressionist paintings by French and American artists and European porcelain.
- In good weather, the adjoining gardens (shown above) are especially inviting, and they host seasonal events such as Hello Holland, a spring festival of tulips, narcissus, and other flowers.
- The Metal Museum (pictured above), located across from Chickasaw Heritage Park and with great views of the Mississippi River, is another lesser-known but unique attraction.
- The Metal Museum, which focuses on artists and artwork from the post-Craft Revival period of the 1970s to the present, is an excellent introduction to metalsmithing and even offers classes in metal casting, blacksmithing, and welding.

- Barbecue is probably the most associated with Memphis for a signature dish.
- Countless local favourites serve it up, from Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous to cult favourites like Central BBQ and Payne's Bar-B-Q. However, numerous other types of cuisine are available to first-time visitors, including Phuong Long, the go-to spot for stellar Vietnamese cuisine, and Maciel's Tortas and Tacos, which serves super fresh Mexican fare.
- Catherine & Mary's, located in the newly renovated Chisca Apartments in downtown Memphis, is much more upscale, specializing in Italian dishes from Tuscany and Sicily.
- Sweet Grass, a farm-to-table operation (pictured above), is another trendsetter, serving Low Country dishes like oyster stew, roasted Louisiana redfish, and Hoppin' John. "
- They're a pirate-themed bar that shows strange old movies and hosts a pop-up ramen shop every Sunday night.
- If you want to do what the locals do, go to Jerry's Sno Cones, where Memphisans line up in droves to sample the various shaved ice and soft-serve ice cream delights.
