The Best Places to Visit in Blackpool
Blackpool Pleasure Beach
- Since its establishment in 1896, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been run by the same family (The Thompsons), making it one of the top 20 most popular theme parks globally.
- Over the previous century, the park has set numerous UK, European, and world records, and it has more roller coasters (10) than any other theme park in the country.
- We'll get to the Big One later because it deserves its section. Still, Infusion is the only roller coaster in the UK suspended over water, and Revolution was Europe's first inverting roller coaster.
- Beach's roller coasters are wooden, including the Big Dipper, which goes back to 1923 for those who enjoy traditional thrills.
- Nickelodeon Land is a six-acre children's area based on their favourite Nick TV shows, and "Hot Ice" is an artistically choreographed ice dancing show.
The Big One
- The massive frame of this legendary roller coaster has become as much a part of Blackpool's skyline as the Blackpool Tower.
- The Big One was the world's tallest roller coaster when it opened in 1994, and it's still the tallest in the UK some 25 years later.
- It was also the world's steepest (65 degrees) and longest (1,675 metres) at the outset.
- Because Blackpool airport is barely a mile away, warning beacons had to be put at the tops of the first two drops.
- It's 62 metres high and takes an eternity to climb, with speeds of 74 mph on the way down.
Blackpool Tower
- This 158-meter iron tower is intrinsically linked to the town of Blackpool.
- The Blackpool Tower, which was first built in 1894, is still the tallest artificial viewing point in the United Kingdom's northwest.
- The Eiffel Tower inspired this massive structure, which comprises almost 2,500 tonnes of iron and five million Accrington bricks.
- You can see Wales to the south and Cumbria's Lake District to the north.
- Since the tower opened, the circus on the complex below hasn't missed a single season, and it runs from late March to November.
- The opulent Tower Ballroom, like the circus, was designed by Frank Matcham, who also worked on the Grand Theatre in Blackpool.

Blackpool Tramway
- The Blackpool tramway, a fixture on the promenade since 1885, is one of the world's oldest tram systems and the last of the UK's original generation of tramways.
- The 11-mile route runs from Fleetwood Ferry in the north to Starr Gate on the edge of the Ribble Estuary in the south.
- The rounded English Electric Balloon vehicle is the Blackpool Tramway's signature, albeit it has generally been phased out, favouring the ultramodern Flexity 2 trams, initially installed in 2012.
- Ride one of the many magnificent antique trams, and there are heritage services available on weekends, bank holidays, select weekdays, and during the Illuminations in the fall.
Blackpool Beach
- The beach at Blackpool was not historically recognised for its cleanliness in the late twentieth century, but it is now immaculate and has recently earned its first Blue Flag.
- From deckchairs and ice cream to donkey rides, the beach has all the hallmarks of an English seaside.
- Little ones can construct sandcastles and play in the shallow sea.
- The beach has a relatively gentle grade, and the sea recedes for hundreds of metres during low tide.
- Amusements, entertainment, and rides are available on all three of Blackpool's piers.
- The Great Promenade Show, an outdoor show just down the street from the South Pier, features ten pieces by known and emerging artists each year.
Grand Theatre
- The magnificent Grand Theatrical, built in the mid-1890s, was designed by the celebrated Victorian theatre designer Frank Matcham.
- The four-story neo-Baroque auditorium is adorned with ornate gilded stuccowork on the ceiling and a cantilevered balcony.
- Because the Grand Theatre is such a magnificent setting for a performance, you don't have to be selective about what you see.
- Classical music ensembles, operas, pantomimes, and comedy performances are all on the schedule.
