The Best Places to Visit in Madrid
Gran Vía
- The main tourist and shopping thoroughfare in the city's centre begins at C/Alcalá and extends 1.3 kilometres to Plaza de Espaa.
- Gran Vá has gone by several names for over a century, depending on the ruling administration.
- Because of the shells that wound up on the pavements and buildings during the Spanish Civil War, it was known as the Avenue of Mortars.
- During the Spanish Transition, Gran Via was the name of the famous street in 1981.
- The first department stores in Madrid can be found in Gran Via, along with some of the best nightlife areas in the city.
Palacio Real (Royal Palace)
- From Carlos III to Alfonso XIII, this structure housed the Spanish monarchy. Visitors can now learn about this museum's splendour and luxury of the Spanish royal aristocracy.
- The Louvre in Paris inspired the architecture which Bernini designed. Although Filippo Juvarra started work on the plans, Juan Bautista Sachetti would ultimately complete the challenging project.
- With each change in power, the 3,000 rooms' interior design was altered to reflect the personal preferences of the reigning monarch.
- Our highlights include the Royal Chapel, the Throne Room, and the Royal Apothecary on Sabatini.
Museo del Prado
- Spain's most significant art museum is the Prado, housed in a sizeable neo-classical structure.
- Juan de Villanueva started work on it in 1785 under King Carlos III's order. The Prado underwent an extremely ambitious expansion programme in recent years.
- A contentious new cube-shaped building, designed by Rafael Moneo and primarily used for temporary exhibitions, is now part of the complex.
- Diego Velázquez's "Las Meninas," Francisco de Goya's "The Third of May 1808," and Hieronymus Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights" are three of Prado's most famous pieces (aka El Bosco).

El Rastro market
- Madrid's most well-known flea market has been held around Plaza Cascorro every Sunday for decades.
- Early in the morning, more than a thousand street vendors erect their stalls along C/Ribera de Curtidores and the nearby streets.
- The civil war of the 1930s and the decline of this era in the 18th and 19th centuries contributed to further shaping the Spanish identity.
- Set out early because navigating the midday crowds can be challenging.
- After you've had your fill, it's customary to unwind with a beer and a snack at one of the bars in the nearby La Latina neighbourhood.
El Retiro park
- The 118-hectare park was created when the Monasterio de Los Jerónimos was built at the direction of Catholic monarchs.
- It is one of the green areas that locals frequent the most during their free time.
- The park also contains historical monuments such as the Alfonso XII, a colonnade designed by José Grases Riera that overlooks the pond, a once-grand ballroom that is now part of the Prado Museum, and the Palacio de Cristal, which was built in 1887 for the Philippines Exposition.

Madrid Culture and Traditions

- Rome ruled the Iberian peninsula for roughly 600 years and left a lasting impact on the area. Spain is home to numerous Roman ruins. The Visigoths later added their influence to the region and standards of Spain.
- The massive invasion of the Moors in the eighth century and their subsequent presence for almost 800 years significantly impacted Spanish culture and architecture.
- Following the defeat of the Moors by Christians in 1492, the 16th century came to be known as Spain's "golden age of discovery" and "golden age of power."
- The civil war of the 1930s and the decline of this era in the 18th and 19th centuries contributed to further shaping the Spanish identity.

Madrid: Food, Fun & Fashion Guide
Gallinejas And Entresijos (Lamb Tripe)
#Food
- Entresijos and gallinejas are foods that should only be consumed by the brave.
- When they're in the mood for a flavour surprise, locals love these, which are genuinely popular dishes.
- Both tapas and sandwiches can be made with this deep-fried tripe.
- Given that it is only eaten in the region, the dish might be the most uniquely Madrilenian food ever.
- Even though they are trendy, entresijos and gallinejas are only found in a select few traditional restaurants and bars.
Caracoles A La Madrileña (Madrilenian Escargots)
#Food
- Slow-simmered escargots with sauce, chorizo, or other Iberian sausages are another typical Madrilenian tapas dish.
- They aren't served as a fancy restaurant dish like French escargots; instead, they are eaten with toothpicks in traditional taverns and bars.
- Every restaurant has a unique recipe that they all keep to themselves.
- The dish is savoury, and you won't be able to stop dipping your bread in the sauce, so these two things make them similar.
Squid Sandwich
#Food
- This incredibly inexpensive treat is so enjoyable! And it won't let you down when you're hard touring.
- The squid sandwich is one of Madrid's most well-known and enduring street foods, and you can eat it anytime.
- Its combination of crunchy squid coated in breadcrumbs and soft, warm bread is the key to its success.
Centro Comercial Príncipe Pío
#Fashion
- This is the most important. This mall is easily accessible because it is connected to the significant station Principe Po and is located just west of the main city centre.
- If you are staying in a central location, you can probably walk there, but you can also take the metro, bus, or train.
- There are numerous options! The Centro Comercial Principe Po is expansive but not overwhelming.
- Zara, Mango, FootLocker, and many other stores are available. There are numerous cosmetic stores, sporting goods stores, and clothing departments, among other things.
- Restaurants range from fast food (Burger King and McDonald's) to kebabs, Mexican food, empanadas, and much more. You can also go to a tremendous Colombian coffee shop, and this is just scratching the surface.
- The metro lines 6 and 10 stop at Principe Po. In addition, there is a direct line connecting this location to Pera. Numerous buses stop in Principe Po, as do two Renfe Cercanas lines.
- It is the best shopping mall in Madrid's centre. Extremely popular, particularly among young people.
ABC Serrano
#Fashion
- The second shopping mall in the centre is relatively small.
- It is in Salamanca, close to the Rubén Daro metro stop.
- ABC Serrano has only a few stores, but they are pretty good. The massive two-story Mercadona supermarket takes up the majority of the mall.
- However, there are clothing stores, cafés, a juice bar, and much more.
Moda Shopping
#Fashion
- This one is close to Nuevos Ministerios. It has two floors, most of which are occupied by clothing stores. Despite the high costs, the quality is first-rate.
- Fashion shopping is more prevalent among women than among men. This is because there are so many female fashion stores.
- This shopping centre is elementary to locate. And if you are already nearby and shopping is one of your top priorities in Madrid, we strongly advise you to go there.
- But, by no means is this the most prominent mall, and while it's nice and has high-quality products, you won't be able to find everything here.
Aquopolis Water Park Madrid
#Fun
- Aquapolis is Madrid's largest water park and one of the largest in Europe! The water park has various slides, such as the Boomerang, the Lazy River, and the Soft Tracks!
- It also has a wave pool and a simulated Hawaiian beach. There is also an extensive green zone where visitors can eat and relax in the sun while exploring everything the park offers.
- That concludes our list of the best Madrid theme parks and water parks!

- The Faunia Zoo is a fantastic location for people who want to get close to nature and wildlife, despite being less well-known than Madrid's official Zoo Aquarium.
- Madrid's Faunia is a zoo and botanical garden situated southeast of the city's heart.
- The 14-hectare property is divided into zones representing various ecosystems, such as jungle and polar. There is one for the African forest as well.
Warner Beach
