A Sneak Peek into Bucharest
- Romania's capital, Bucharest, is rich with a legendary history that combines with its present character.
- It was formerly known as "Little Paris" for its magnificent architecture. The architectural collision is both perplexing and exciting.
- Its Byzantine structures, 16th, 17th, and 18th-century churches, Art Nouveau palaces, and stunning Neoclassical façade have weathered earthquakes, wars, and communism.
- Sombre block panel masonry and tyrant Nicolae Ceausescu's favourite creation, the Palace of the Parliament, left their impression throughout that terrible political era.
- Exploring Bucharest's colossal city parks, enjoying the works of art and exhibits at its outstanding museums, and getting lost in the dirty yet lovely streets that thread through the Old Town reveal the city's beauty.
- A journey down Calea Victoriei, perhaps one of the city's most beautiful streets, is a chance to see some of the country's most important structures and monuments, all of which bear witness to bygone eras.
- Exploring Bucharest entails delving into a complicated past that gives way to a modern sense as a thriving European centre.

- The parks are lush with flowers, birds chirp joyfully, and warm and pleasant weather.
- If you visit the city during one of these months, you'll get the best of both worlds.
- However, if you enjoy meeting people and seeing the city in its most valid form, avoid visiting on May 1st.
- Most Romanians go on holidayto the countryside during this time, and Bucharest becomes a ghost town.

The Best Places to Visit in Bucharest
Palace of Parliament
- The Palace of Parliament is the world's second-largest administrative facility after the Pentagon.
- The vast and luxurious tower, which was Nicolae Ceausescu's idea, began construction in 1984. It has not, however, been completed to this day.
- The neoclassical structure, which has over 3,000 rooms, serves as a reminder to Romanians of the communist era's excesses, primarily since it was constructed when most of the country's population was impoverished.
- Because this is one of Bucharest's most famous tourist destinations, travellers are advised to purchase tickets in advance.
Stavropoleos Church
- Stavropoleos Church, erected in 1724 and located in the Old City, is a tiny, charming church.
- It is recognised for its exquisite carved doors and unique Brancovan architectural style.
- Lord Nicolae Mavrocordat's throne is among the fascinating antiquities in Stavropoleous Church.
- The church was once part of an inn and had a monastery attached to it, but the late 1800s razed both.
- This church is also one of the few churches in Bucharest's Old Town to have survived the 1847 Great Fire, which destroyed many of the city.
Village Museum
- This open-air museum, located on Lake Herastrau, is home to hundreds of historic houses, farms, and other structures that have been relocated from their original places throughout Romania and rebuilt on this site.
- The Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum was founded in 1936, and the majority of the buildings come from the mid-nineteenth century.
- However, there are a few that are even older. Some constructions in Berbesti, a region in the centre of Romania, dating back to 1775, for example.
- Anyone who will not have the opportunity to travel outside of Bucharest to view the Romanian countryside should visit the Village Museum.

Romanian Athenaeum
- The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra is housed in this magnificent neoclassical domed tower, which debuted in 1888 and is one of Romania's most well-known attractions.

- The Romanian Athenaeum seats about 800 people, and the interior circular wall is covered with a mural depicting significant events in Romanian history.
- Travellers should try to get seats for a performance here if feasible, but even if that isn't possible, they should visit the building and its magnificent gardens.
Spring Palace
- The former residence of Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena, who was toppled during the Romanian Revolution, is the Spring Palace.
- On Christmas Day 1989, they were executed. After being closed for many years following the executions, the mansion was reopened to the public in 2016 as a museum.
- The 80-room mansion, swimming pool, and lavish lifestyle enjoyed by this Communist politician and his wife are now exposed to the public.
- The Spring Palace tour also gives guests a glimpse into Romanian history during the Communist era.

Bucharest Culture and Traditions
- The most fantastic thing about Bucharest is that it has yet to establish itself as a tourist destination.
- A vibrant metropolis vying for attention with the rest of Europe, luring interested visitors with an air of unknown intrigue that well-trodden tourism magnets like Rome, Madrid, and London haven't been able to match since charter flights were a novelty.
- It's one of those "go-now" destinations, a city that rewards you with bragging rights for discovering it before everyone else.
- This metropolitan sprawl, home to about two million people, is a painting of historical traces and is culturally rich in a unique way.
- Bucharest's past — its tremendous and less illustrious faces – is seen everywhere.

Romanian Meatballs – Chiftele
#Food
- Meatballs are famous in almost every location, and Romania is no exception.
- The addition of shredded potatoes and carrots to the meat combination distinguishes chiftele.
- When creating meatballs, grated veggies are squeezed to eliminate as much moisture as possible before mixing with the rest of the components.
- The inclusion of potatoes tenderises the meatballs. In reality, the ground meat used is less crucial than the potatoes.
- Many chiftele recipes don't even say what kind of meat to use.
- Beef, hog, lamb, veal, or any mix of these, are common choices.
Grilled Mutton Pastrami with Polenta
#Food
- This pastrami is unlike anything you'd get in a deli.
- To begin with, it's cooked from lamb.
- Salt, paprika, garlic powder, chilli flakes, and thyme are used to cold cure the lamb.
- Occasionally, rosemary or juniper are utilised.
- After that, the pastrami can be smoked or fried in a skillet.

- The Botanical Garden of Dimitrie Brândză is located in Bucharest's tranquil and picturesque Cotroceni suburb.
- It was founded in 1860, and its history reflects the city's turbulent past. It was severely damaged during World War I and destroyed during World War II.
- Still, it has since recovered and today welcomes visitors with over 10,000 varieties of plants scattered over 18 hectares.
- Keep an eye out for the rocky environment on your right, where you'll find some unusual plant species.
- Snake's head, wild peony, can be found in the spring, and the yellow star-shaped flowers of Sternbergia lutea, the fall daffodil, can be seen in the autumn, brought from Ada Kaleh, a now-submerged island in the Danube.
- Grădina Eden, which opened only a few years ago, is located on the site of a famous Bucharest garden known for its waterfalls and caves during the interwar period.
- The gorgeous structure it is hidden behind, Palatul Tirbei, was the city's premier nightclub at the time, hosting balls and cabaret nights frequented by aristocrats and royals.
- This wild-looking environment, where drinks are always cold, is the closest you can come to the earthly equivalent of the Garden of Eden these days, on a hot summer night.
- You can climb the stairs down to 'the hole,' a quieter and more personal location, or find a table or a beanbag among the trees as soon as you enter.
