- Convento e Capela de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, located on Praça 5 de Outubro, and the site of the yearly Festa do Senhor Santo Christ dos Milagres, is directly across the street.

Convento e Capela de Nossa Senhora da Esperança
- The Convent and Church of Nossa Senhora da Esperança (Our Lady of Hope), which was finished in 1541 and is still inhabited by nuns of the order of St. Francis, is arguably the most popular cultural attraction in Ponta Delgada.
- The chapel, a genuine treasure trove of holy art, is decorated with a magnificent canvas of 18th-century azulejos tiles made by António de Oliveira Bernardes, the foremost expert in the style. Meanwhile, the altar is a riot of gilded woodwork.
- Locals adore the picture of Ecce Homo at the chapel, which is connected to the devotion of the Christ of Miracles.
- The statue brought to the island in the 16th century is tucked away in the lower church and is only visible at specific times when a nun unlocks the internal gates and lets guests inside to see it.
- Hold your breath since this is also an opportunity to take in the ornately embroidered robes, shiny reliquaries, and brilliant diamonds that adorn the statue's surroundings.
- On the fifth Sunday following Easter, if you happen to be in Ponta Delgada, you can see worshippers carrying the statue in a procession to commemorate the magnificent Festa do Senhor Santo Christ dos Milagres festival.
- Thousands of bright lights attached to the convent's façade illuminate it at night during the event.
Gruta do Carvão
- The longest lava tube on the island of San Miguel, measuring 1,650 metres in length, is located deep underground on the city's northwest borders.
- The underground show is one of the island's most interesting visitor attractions because about 250 metres are accessible to the general public.
- Seasonal guided excursions offer an interesting geological journey through thousands of years of volcanic activity.
- Speleological features of strange and captivating beauty adorn the cavern walls, such as lava bridges and countless stalactites in conical shapes.
- The walls and ceilings appear covered with rust but are oxidised basalt, giving the interior's dark atmosphere a copper glow when lit.
- Secondary mineral layers of silica, glaze, and tree moulds all add texture.
- This undiscovered natural treasure attracts tourists seeking adventure and those who value the magnificent ecological diversity of the Azores.
- It is warm and humid even in the winter.
