  • Whether you prefer shopping, visiting parks, or learning more about the city's history, there are many fascinating and beautiful things to see in the city.
  • In the nineteenth century, the textile industry fueled the growth of Poland's third largest city.

  • Andrzej Wajda and Roman Polanski both attended the National Film School in Lodz, which is well-known far beyond Poland's borders.
  • Despite the fact that Lodz's was largely unaffected by WWII, it had Poland's second-largest ghetto.
  • The Radegast train station, now a monument, was where tens of thousands of people began their final journey to Auschwitz or the nearby Chelmno camp.

Manufaktura

  • Manufaktura, a mall and leisure complex incorporating former textile factories, has been a showpiece for the city center's regeneration over the last 25 years.
  • It is Poland's largest urban regeneration scheme since the wartime reconstruction of Warsaw's Old Town, which began in 2006.
  • The epic industrial brick architecture, built by entrepreneur Izrael Poznaski in the 1870s, distinguishes this from a typical mall.
  • More than 300 businesses, ranging from international retailers to cafes, restaurants, and bakeries, are housed on the 27-hectare site.
  • The Factory Museum depicts the daily lives of factory workers, as well as the techniques used to manufacture cloth at this facility and Izrael Poznaski's life.
destination - Seasons to travel

Ulica Piotrkowska

  • Ulica Piotrkowska is Lodz's main thoroughfare and one of the world's longest pedestrian streets, measuring just under five kilometers.
  • There is no better place to start your tour of the city because it is home to so many of the city's best restaurants, shops, nightclubs, and attractions.
  • The majority of Lodz's industrialists owned townhouses along the street, which have been restored to their turn-of-the-century glory since the 1990s.
  • The Grand Hotel, at number 72, is about halfway down the street, and has hosted figures as diverse as Tito, Himmler, and Roman Polanski.
  • Then, at number 78, you'll arrive at the childhood home of Arthur Rubinstein, the Polish-American classical pianist.
  • On the street, he is commemorated by a monument depicting him sitting at a grand piano in a familiar pose.

Radegast Train Station

  • Radegast Train Station in the Bauty district served as a departure point for the extermination camps of Auschwitz and Chelmno.
  • Approximately 200,000 Jews from the Lodz Ghetto, as well as Jews from all over Poland, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and the former Sudetenland, passed through this point.
  • In 2005, the station was turned into a memorial, with three windowless cattle wagons parked alongside the restored station.
  • The names of destinations such as Auschwitz-Birkenau and imprints of hands can be found in the concrete of large slab-like gravestones.
  • In the station, a branch of the Lodz Museum of Independence depicts life in the Lodz Ghetto.
  • The contents of a suitcase discovered in an attic on Ulica Organizacji WiN in the Ghetto, belonging to a family that was most likely killed at the Chelmno camp, are one of the most moving exhibits.

Karl Scheibler Chapel

  • Karl Scheibler, a prominent textile magnate from the nineteenth century, and his wife are buried here in this mausoleum-like chapel.
  • The chapel was praised as a fine work of craftsmanship at the time it was built, and its architecture is typical of the neo-gothic style.

  • Guests of the city can enjoy numerous landmark sights as well as visit the most popular shops and restaurants while strolling through the city.
