  • Kaunas was historically important as a trade center during the Hanseatic League era, and many of the buildings in the old town have German architectural influences.
  • Furthermore, compared to Vilnius, Kaunas suffered less destruction during the Soviet era, so more of the old architecture is original.
  • Vilniaus gatve is the most beautiful street in the old town.
  • Visitors will need to use an underground passage to get from Laisves pr. to the old town and the new part of the city, which is difficult to access with strollers.
