- Famous ballets and some of the world's top singers and orchestras may be heard and watched here.

Milan Off the Beaten Track
Duomo & San Babila
- The Piazza del Duomo is a beautiful plaza that features a massive gothic-style cathedral, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II retail arcade, the royal palace, and a fascist-era palace opposite the Martini tower.
- To view the world's most outstanding opera house, head east from the Duomo or west to San Babila, a peaceful enclave of piazzas and well-to-do Milanese, to avoid the tourist crowds.
Brera
- Brera's old artists' quarter is a hugely festive area with little traffic and a mix of locals and tourists.
- The Pinocotera di Brera, arguably the city's most important art museum, is its crowning glory.
- Visit the many museums inside or not; the unmissable Castello Sforzesco serves as a gateway to the park.
Zona Magenta
- The Zona Magenta district, just southwest of Sforza Castle, is home to the Civic Archeological Museum, the Science and Technology Museum, and the Santa Maria delle Grazie cathedral. Which houses one of history's most famous works of art, Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper.
- Meanwhile, the Civic Archeological Museum, located near a small section of the medieval city wall and featuring a Roman dwelling from the first century, provides an excellent insight into the city's ancient history.
Navigli & San Lorenzo
- Navigli is a 10-minute walk southwest of the Duomo and the ancient Porta Ticinese gateway, which leads south to Milan's bustling Navigli neighbourhood.
- Locals congregate at San Lorenzo's striking Basilica and Roman columns during aperitivo hour.
- In the evenings, the restaurants and bars fill up and flow out onto the streets, making it the pulsing centre of Milan's nightlife.
Quadrilatero d'Oro
- World-class shopping and elegant streets: this section of Milan encapsulates what makes this city stand shoulder to shoulder with London, New York, and Paris as a world city.
- The most well-known is the 'Golden Quad,' also known as the Quadrilatero della Moda or Montenapoleone after the Metro station.
- The 'Quad' of Milan refers to the four streets – Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Corso Venezia, and Via della Spiga. That connects Milan's premier shopping district, whose streets are home to the world's biggest names in fashion and accessories (not to mention the uber-luxe food and accommodation options to complement the experience).

CULTURE & TRADITIONS
CULTURE & TRADITIONS
CULTURE & TRADITIONS
Milan Culture and Traditions
- Milan appears to many visitors to be more modern, European, and "less Italian."
- This is due, in part, to its massive size.
- Milan is Italy's equivalent of New York City.
- International and regional business are much more prevalent in this city than others.
- The city has more modern architecture than the rest of the region.
- Milan is also known as Italy's melting pot.
- Since the end of WWII, over a quarter-million Italians have moved to Milan from the poorer regions of the South and Sicily in search of better economic conditions.
- In other parts of the world, this influx of new blood has contributed significantly to the area's vitality.
- Milan is more diverse and cosmopolitan than other cities in Italy, owing to internal migration, transplants from other countries, and many business travellers to the country's economic and financial capital.
- The Milanese, like most Italians, enjoy opera and soccer.
- Inter-Milan and AC Milan, the two Serie A teams in Milan, are consistently two of the best teams in Italy, if not all of Europe.
- The Milanese, like all Europeans, enjoy their holidays, unlike Americans.
- Most of the city's restaurants close during August, the traditional month of holidays when cities are deserted, and most Italians travel to beaches or other resort destinations.
- Lake Como is practically a suburb of Milan, and the other lakes are within a few hours' drive, as are the other outdoor wonders of the Alps.
- Sailing and windsurfing are popular activities on Lake Como and Lake Garda.
- Hiking and biking are popular activities in many beautiful areas.

Milan: Food, Fun & Fashion Guide
Food
#Food
- The aptest adjective to describe traditional Milanese cuisine is "rich," which applies to the city's cuisine in more than one sense.
- For starters, the Po River serves as an unofficial border between the north, where butter is the preferred fat, and the rest of the country, where olive oil reigns supreme.
- Fish does not appear in any Milanese staples because Lombardy is a landlocked region: meat is the undisputed star of the Milanese table.
- The combination of meat and butter results in rich cuisine, but there is much more to the story.
- Milan has long been one of Italy's wealthiest cities, happy to leave the complexity of political and religious concerns to Rome for its business-oriented bourgeoisie to prosper.
- Milanese cuisine's most emblematic dishes reflect the upper class's opulent tastes: saffron, which is sometimes more precious than gold, is the ingredient that characterizes Milanese risotto. Cotoletta, on the other hand, requires veal meat, making it the most expensive item on a classic Milanese dinner.
- People in the densely populated countryside surrounding the city walls, on the other hand, have been eating simple peasant fare for centuries.
- Some of the most popular foods today are the simplest, such as polenta, which chefs enjoy, and minestrone, a bland vegetable soup.

- Milan is a shopper's dream, with everything from high-end luxury shops and boutiques to unique vintage and thrift finds.
- Budget-conscious shoppers should visit during the winter months of January and February, or from July to September, when the soldi, or twice-yearly sales held throughout Italy, are held.
- A stroll through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which runs between La Scala and the Duomo, is a must-do Milanese experience.
- Visit the worn area in the mosaic floor where Italians spin for good luck; treat yourself to a croissant and an espresso at Pasticceria Marchesi above Prada, an aperitivo at Camparino, or a lavish meal at Cracco; and soak it all in.
- The Quadrilatero della Moda refers to the four streets, or simply 'Montenapoleone' after the Metro station. The Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Corso Venezia, and Via della Spiga connect some of the world's best designer shopping, from prominent names to one-of-a-kind artisans, everyone who's anyone has a store here.
- Dress up, locate a tiny dog to parade around with, and spend all of your money.
- In Piazza del Duomo, one of the world's best and most well-known department stores, sells everything from haute couture to sneakers, housewares, and beach towels.

- Going on safari appeals to both children and parents.
- The Pombia Zoo Safari Park provides the opportunity near Novara.
- The park is not far from Lake Maggiore and, within the boundaries of local "nature," allows you to drive for kilometres across a sunny hillside where animals roam freely.
- Close encounters are every day, especially in the park's first section, the herbivore area.
- Ostriches, gnus, zebras, camels, dromedaries, and a stunning giraffe do their business unaffected by the fact that curious visitors are watching them.
- This is followed by two carefully fenced-in areas, the first of which is home to "tranquil" lions and the second of which is home to magnificent tigers.
- After leaving these areas and the woodland, you descend to the park's pride and joy section: a pair of magnificent white lions!
- On the way down, you'll see various animals, including some very enormous buffaloes.
- After one last look at the monkey cage, you arrive at the car park, from which you can walk to various areas.
- There is almost too much to do: a reptile house, children's play areas, various shops, and an entertainment area with a daily show cycle.
- The Zoo Safari Park offers a one-of-a-kind and fascinating experience in various ways, thanks partly to its management's efforts to develop an appealing concept in the most efficient manner possible.
