MARIAN SHRINE

  • Our Lady, St. Joseph, and St. John the Evangelist appeared in the church at Knock in County Mayo, Ireland, on the evening of Thursday, August 21, 1879, which marked the beginning of the Knock legend.
  • Young and old observed and prayed for two hours in the pouring rain with the fifteen certified witnesses to the apparition.
  • In 1879 and 1936, two commissions of enquiry approved their testimony as reliable and adequate.
  • Nowadays, Knock is one of the principal Marian Shrines in the world. More than 1.5 million people travel annually to Knock Shrine, an international prayer and pilgrimage site.
  • Many cures were claimed after the miraculous apparition, with Delia Gordon, a young girl from the nearby village of Claremorris, being the first to be healed of deafness.
  • Since then, pilgrims have travelled to Knock for recovery, rapprochement, and peace.
