The Best Places to Visit in Preveza
Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis
- The treasures of Nikopolis are abundant in this contemporary museum, including mosaics from Byzantine churches and statues made of Roman marble.
- The city's life (and demise; there are several burial monuments there) and the significant naval battle of Aktion, for which the city was intended, is vividly explained in English.
- Admission to the archaeological site is included in the ticket price.
- Take any bus headed for Ioannina or Filippiada and ask to get out at the stop in front of the museum, which is located just north of Preveza.
- The main entrance to the property is located 1 kilometre north of the museum.
Nikopolis
- Following his victory over Mark Antony and Cleopatra in the naval Battle of Actium (Aktion), Octavian (later Augustus) erected the ruins of Nikopolis in 28 BC.
- They include Roman fortifications, Byzantine walls and churches, a stadium, and two theatres.
- The magnitude of the damaged "City of Victory" is still stunning, even if it takes some imagination to imagine.
- Most of it was destroyed by Bulgarians in the 11th century. It is beneficial to go to the museum first.
- A Byzantine church and a Roman odeon are accessible from the main site entrance, 5 km north of Preveza. Long stretches of the fortifications constructed by Emperor Justinian in AD 540 can be seen further north along the road.
- The Roman stadium and a huge theatre with 5000 seats are around another bend. All of these are available for free along the side of the road.
- If you arrive by bus, allow a couple of hours to walk the site (take any bound for Filippiada of Ioannina).
- Using a car, you can travel farther and more swiftly across the terrain while navigating to the farther-off "Actium Trophy," a sizable monument Octavian constructed in the wake of the conflict.

- The ouzo made by the third generation of the Roumpou family has a history within history, much like a matryoshka doll.
- The shop is the oldest existing store inside the municipal plan, and the ouzo is legendary in Preveza.
- Their first distillation alembic was constructed in 1905, seven years before Preveza was freed in 1912.
- They began producing ouzo in 1949 using a special recipe and adhering to two key guidelines:
- They never alter the recipe, even if it costs more money, and they always utilise the same ingredients, which are plentiful and occasionally hard to get, even during difficult times.
- Their ouzo is created according to a very old formula, is organic, and is an actual Greek product. Locally available Ouzo Roumpou is also exported in modest quantities to Europe.

- It also produces small delights like tahinopitakia, which are tiny waffle cookies filled with sweet tahini, and sticky-sweet milopitakia, which are drowned in honey.
- The savoury pies it produces are excellent; you'll swear you're back in the mountains of Epiros).
Roubou

- The largest reed marsh in the Balkans is in this area, part of the Amvrakikos National Park.
- Its ecology includes multiple lagoons and is home to diverse species. Stratos Floudas, a member of the Management Unit of the Acheloos Valley and Amvrakikos Gulf Protected Area, states that there are more than twenty.
- Local fishermen in Bogonitsa run the lagoon and pay taxes to the government.
- For the European Union, the area is a major wetland and part of the Natura 2000 network.
- While there are only 400 distinct bird species in Greece, there are 300 different bird species in this area.
- All of these sites have legal protection because of the birds.
- The condition of the ecosystem can also be determined by birds, just like it can by dolphins.
- To maintain a consistent population size, we monitor them and work to regulate them.
- The environment is satisfactory for people when the population is stable.

- This women-only carnival march occurs on the final Thursday of Carnival or the last Thursday before the Great Lent.
- More than twenty groups totalling about 1,000 persons, participate yearly in the Preveza Women's Carnival.
- A group of Prevezian women decided to don costumes and walk through the town's streets at the beginning of the 1960s when it all started. They wanted to enjoy themselves.
- Since the group's only man did not have to work on Thursdays, they decided to dress up on that day (thus why it is held on this day).
- After touring the town, they had a good time with their spouses in a well-liked entertainment area at night.
