Top Tourist Attractions in Naxos
- Naxos' lovely town centre, Chora, is the island's heartbeat (or Naxos Town).
- The Venetian Castle of Naxos is perched high above Naxos, providing a panoramic view of the white-washed walls and roofs of the old town as well as the glistening harbour (Castro).
- It's odd that harbours are often the most unsightly areas of the island in the Greek Islands and should be avoided after dark.
- Without a dish of the sugar-inducing Loukoumades, Greek doughnuts drenched in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon, no trip to Greece or Naxos is complete.

Best Months to Visit Naxos
- If you wish to visit Naxos in the summer, the months of April through October are ideal.
- Walking, trekking and environmental exploration are best done on the island in the spring and fall.
- Although the ocean is still a little too chilly to swim in, it is warm enough to enjoy the beaches. The busiest season is during the summer, especially during the popular months of July and August.
- June is an excellent month to travel if you want to take advantage of the warm weather without fighting the greatest crowds.
- Compared to many Greek islands, where the summertime highs reach around 80 °F, the summertime temperatures are still relatively mild and pleasant.
- The island is quiet during the winter, but you can still take in the stunning surroundings.
- Travelling in December or February is preferable as January has the most rainfall.
- You can take advantage of relaxation and take in the virtually empty museums and archaeological sites.

The Best Places to Visit in Naxos
Portara
- Portara, a beautiful landmark for the entire island, is one of the first things you see as your ship approaches the island.
- What's left of an Apollon Ionic temple that was begun in the sixth century BC but never completed is this massive marble frame, measuring 6 metres by 3.5 metres.
- Formerly a hill on the island's northwest coast and is now only connected to Naxos port by a causeway.
- However, this entryway proved to be too massive to disassemble and move.
- The remaining stone from the temple was recycled for the Kastro (Castle of Naxos).
- Call it cliché, but you may join the crowd of couples pouring to Palatia to watch the sun set behind the Island of Paros after dining at the port of the Old Town.
Old Town
- A bewildering maze of alleys, stairways, and corridors rises from the harbour to the Kastro.
- Like all the best historic districts, the Old Town is where you might roam for hours and features lovely white Cycladic homes and irregular marble paving stones.
- Many have dark or light blue painted doors, bannisters, and window frames.
- Souvenir stores selling handcrafted jewellery and reproductions of ancient Cycladic statues are crammed into this chaotic, traffic-free hamlet, together with many tavernas, taverns, and cafes.
- Remember that the citadel is up, and the harbour is down if you ever feel lost.
Kastro
- The Venetian Duke of the Archipelago Marco II Sanudo constructed the citadel of Chora in the 13th century, which is located above the Old Town.
- The Kastro, which is still partially surrounded by mediaeval walls, is a tranquil network of tiny flower-filled squares connected by winding lanes that are home to monasteries, churches, and noble residences, some of which still display their coats of arms.
- The official measure for merchants selling fabrics is engraved into a marble pilaster and is visible if you approach the Kastro from the northern Trani Porta gate.
- The School of Commerce at the Kastro, now the Naxos Archaeological Museum, was where Nikos Kazantzakis, the most refined modern writer from Greece, spent a year of his education.

Agios Prokopios Beach
- Agios Prokopios, a gorgeous Blue Flag beach, is only five kilometres south of Chora and is accessible on foot or by bicycle.
- The beach is a stretch of golden sand that is 1.5 kilometres long. The water is pure turquoise and quickly gets deeper, although it is protected from strong winds and currents.
- Things are a little more developed to the south, where you can find beachside cafes, restaurants, and big blocks of sun loungers and sunshades.
- Things become more peaceful further north, where Agios Prokopios is bordered by low dunes and three old salt pans.
Plaka Beach
- Plaka Beach is a long, broad beach on the west coast with just a few buildings and a few dunes in the background.
- With a length of four kilometres, there is enough space for everyone to enjoy some alone time in the sun or rent a sun lounger and use the beach bars and tavernas behind.
- Naturists choose the more isolated southern end on the road to Plaka, whereas to the north, there is a watersports facility for wakeboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing.
- Everyone else will be happy to float in the clear, blue water, which is even more beautiful in person than it appears in pictures.
