A Sneak Peek into Mykonos

- Mykonos is known for its vibrant nightlife and for being a gay-friendly destination, with many establishments catering to the LGBT community.
- Tourism is a major industry on the island.
- There are many Greek and European restaurants on Mykonos, but its Mediterranean cuisine, fresh seafood, and mezze dining culture are perhaps its most famous features.
- Kopanisti, a spicy cheese with an aromatic flavor, and louza, made from thin slices of cooked, spicy pork, are two dishes that are unique to the island.
- Mykonos' nightlife is also distinctive; from seaside verandas in Little Venice to cosmopolitan bars and gourmet restaurants overlooking the iconic windmills, to extravagant nightclubs and glamorous beach parties, few places can match the energizing energy that pervades the island of Mykonos.
- With bronzed bodies thronging its beaches by day and bass lines pounding through its superclubs until dawn, Mykonos is the party animal of the Cycladic islands, Greece's answer to Ibiza.

The Best Places to Visit in Mykonos
Mykonos Windmills
- This row of seven white windmills perched on a small cape is the first sight you see as you approach the harbour.
- These were most likely built by the Venetians in the 16th century and are oriented to the north in order to catch the prevailing wind.
- They were built near the harbor to mill grain offloaded from ships so it could be transported more easily.
- The mills, which are a short walk southwest of the Alefkandra quarter, have become a symbol for the entire island.
- A small gift shop sits alongside the road, and you can join the throngs of photographers snapping photos of the white mills set against the blue sky and sea.
Delos
- You can set sail from the old harbour for one of Greece's most important archaeological sites.
- Delos is a small island off the southwest coast of Mykonos whose excavations have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- If you're familiar with Olympian Greek mythology, Delos is the home of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis.
- However, the island had been a revered holy sanctuary for over a thousand years before that.
- There's plenty to see, including the 7th-century BC Terrace of the Lions, the Doric Temple of the Delians, the Minoan Fountain, a series of market squares, and the Theatre Quarter, which is covered in magnificent mosaics.
- The House of Dionysos, the House of Masks, the House of the Trident, the House of the Lake, and the House of the Dolphins all have fantastic Hellenistic mosaics.
Matogianni Street
- Matogianni Street, a north-south street in Mykonos Town with small alleys branching off it, is where it all happens.
- During the day, you can stroll through souvenir shops, boutiques, jewelry stores, and a few international chains such as Sephora and Lacoste.
- When hunger strikes, you can order a souvlaki or gyro or sit down in one of the town's many tavernas, which are usually more reasonably priced.
- In the evening, there's a delectable selection of restaurants in romantic settings with bougainvillea climbing the walls, as well as bars that stay open until the early hours of the morning.

Kopanisti
#Food
- The kopanisti from Mykonos is a fine cheese that can compete with the best in Europe. Some people even refer to it as "Greek Roquefort."
- It has a thick and creamy texture, spreadable, and yellowy pink.
- It has a peppery and intense flavour.
- It's made with sheep's milk or a combination of sheep and goat's milk, and it takes about four months to complete.
- It's frequently served as a table cheese, as an appetizer on its own, or spread on bread or a Metra rusk.
- Kopanisti can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a year after production.
Kremidopita
#Food
- Kremidopita (onion pie) is one of many Easter delicacies on Mykonos.
- Although there is an onion in the pie, the tanginess of the onion is balanced by creamy tirovolia cheese.
- Dill and other wild herbs and spices are also used in the recipe.
- Unlike in other parts of Greece, only two sheets of thick filo pastry are wrapped around the filling.
- This creates a pleasing contrast between a crispy texture on the outside and a creamy texture on the inside
Lazarakia
#Food
- Lazarakia gets its name from the Orthodox Christian tradition of making them on Lazarus Saturday, the first Saturday of Holy Week, commemorating Lazarus's resurrection.
- Lazarakia is sold in Mykonos bakeries on this day every year, filling the streets and alleys with their delicious aroma.
- They're handmade biscuits in the shape of a shrouded man, sprinkled with sugar and raisins, similar to how Lazarus is often depicted in paintings.
- They have crossed their arms, cloves in their eyes, and a wreath around their head.
- It used to be that each woman in the house would make the same number of Lazarakia as her family's number of children.

- Despite the fact that this form of entertainment is relatively new, it has grown rapidly in recent years, with a slew of high-quality theme parks springing up across Greece.
- These parks' high family appeal, high standard of services, and overall quality of maintenance and cleanliness are some of the reasons for their increased number and popularity.
