  • In all of Crete, the perennially popular dakos are called by many regional names. 
  • Some people refer to it as "owl bread" or "koulouvagia," while others in the east refer to it as "puppy bread" or "kouloukopsomo." 
  • An excellent Greek meze or salad is similar to bruschetta but is made with barley rusks or paximadi rather than bread.
  • Myzithra, a creamy sheep or goat's milk cheese, is sprinkled on top of the softened rusks after they have been lightly dipped in water or olive oil to soften them. 
  • Then, Cretan virgin olive oil is drizzled over them, and salt, oregano, and pepper are sprinkled on top.

Municipal Market of Chania

  • The Municipal Market of Chania is a massive building of 4000 m2 in a surrounding area of 17200 m2, a building that is distinctive not only for its design but also for functioning as a physical representation of an Ancient Greek Market.
  • The Market was officially opened in 1913, with the Prime Minister El performing the ribbon-cutting when it was constructed in the heart of the Venetian walls. Three days after the formal ceremony for Crete's union with Greece, Venizelos.
  • On the southeast side of the Market, an air raid shelter was finished before the Battle of Crete in May 1941.
  • The Market was closed down and utilised by the German Army during the Nazi occupation.
  • The Marker is one of Chania's most significant early 20th century monuments and a particularly vibrant location thanks to its distinctive cross-shaped construction.
  • The structure, designed following the layout of the Market in Marseille, was recognised as a protected monument by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture in 1980 as an example of a building from the Industrial Revolution era.
