- Brest has always turned its telescope westwards at the Atlantic, as you may see by visiting Océanopolis, a world-class aquarium, or the halls of the Naval Museum in the castle's basement.

The Best Places to Visit in Brest
Océanopolis
- Brest is a city with a strong affinity with the Atlantic, as evidenced by it hosts 60% of European ocean research.
- So Océanopolis is the attraction Brest deserves: a magnificent ocean-themed science and culture centre with 50 aquarium tanks, the largest of which is a million-litre shark tank.
- Since a modern upgrade in 2000, the exhibitions have been divided into three pavilions: Polar, Temperate, and Tropical, with 10,000 different plant species and over a thousand different animal species, ranging from harbour seals (for which there is a clinic) to bull sharks, stingrays, and loggerhead turtles.
Port of Brest
- Because Brest is a military port, you won't be able to view much, but the commercial harbour will show you how advantageous this position is for maritime activity.
- Take a stroll down Quai Commandant Malbert to see the shipyards and get a better view of the Rade de Brest's large natural harbour and its system of coloured buoys to aid navigation.
- The Abeille-Flandre, a solid French Navy rescue tugboat, is anchored at Quai Commandant Malbert and can depart port in under 20 minutes to escort a ship into the bay.
Pont de l’Iroise
- This remarkable cable-stayed bridge spans the Élorn River between Pointe Sainte Barbe and Le Cap, completed in 1994.
- It has the fourth-largest main span among bridges of this type in France, and when it was erected, it set a world record for the 400-meter distance between its two 113-meter-high pylons.
- The structure demands a photo or two, especially as the sun sets, and the best spot is the nearby Plougastel Bridge, which was built in the late 1920s and is now only used by pedestrians and farmers.

Brest Off the Beaten Track
Tour Tanguy
- A mediaeval watchtower stands on a hillside on the right bank of the Penfeld, across the water from the Château de Brest, and was most likely built during the Breton War of Succession in the mid-14th century.
- Visit the Museum of Old Brest, which houses a fascinating collection of artefacts such as coats of arms from the city's several mediaeval businesses and centuries-old maps of Brest.
- Each floor represents a step through time, but the goal is to recreate the city's look and feel before WWII damage through dioramas and models.
Port de Recouvrance
- The Pont Gustave Flaubert on the Seine, which used to be the highest vertical lift bridge globally, is located next to this tower and spans the Penfeld River.
- With its four imposing reinforced concrete towers of 70 metres and an 88-meter length, this bridge in Brest held the record for more than 50 years, starting in 1954.
- The amount of naval traffic on the Penfeld necessitated these dimensions; a clearance of at least 45 metres was required.
- The Pont de Recouvrance was built to replace an earlier swing bridge destroyed by allied bombardment in 1944.

- The apples are crushed or grated, and the juice is fermented, with no additional water, sweeteners, or carbonation allowed in the final product.
- The cider is distinct for its reddish-brown orange hue and a bittersweet aroma of orange peel and fresh apples with a slight acidity, leaving a lovely, dry feeling on the palate, thanks to the high natural sugar and tannin content of the apples.
