- Krapisko-Zagorska County is located in northern Croatia, on the border with Hungary, and includes agricultural and mountainous terrain.
- The northern slopes of the Medvednica mountains drop here to the site of Croatia's most prominent shrine, Marija Bistrica.
- Zagorje, which stretches into adjacent Varazdin County, occupies most of the region. At their foot, in the scenic mountain settlement of Marija Bistrica, is the sanctuary of Marija Bistrica, which dates back to the 16th century.
- A hill named Kalwaria, or Mountain of Crosses, rises above the church, attracting large groups of pilgrims.

Kumrovec Staro Selo Museum
- Kumrovec, located close to the Slovenian border in the Sutla River valley, has been renovated into an open-air ethnographic museum.
- The Staro Selo Museum is a re-creation of a 19th-century village, with 40 restored buildings and barns made of pressed earth and wood.
- The hamlet was also the birthplace of former Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito.
- His home has been turned into a museum, complete with original furnishings, letters from foreign leaders, souvenirs, and a life-sized bronze sculpture outside.
- The museum offers a vivid view of peasant traditions and village life, with a stream running through the idyllic location.
- To evoke the region's traditional arts, crafts, and customs, these hie (typical Zagorje huts) are now filled with furniture, mannequins, toys, wine presses, and baker's tools (all accompanied by English captions).
- From April to September, the museum provides demonstrations of blacksmithing, candlemaking, pottery making, and flax weaving on select weekends.
- On May 25, Tito's birthday, the town comes alive with believers from around former Yugoslavia.
The Krapina Neanderthal
- Those with children should make a beeline for this fantastic museum, which explores the history of the world, earth, and humanity while also spotlighting the tale of Krapina's famous 1899 Neanderthal fossil-bone find through various exciting, colourful, and high-tech exhibits.
- Everything from the big bang to Neanderthal everyday life, their demise, and the rise of Homo sapiens is covered, and there are also informative displays on how the dig site was discovered.
- Those with more than a passing interest in Neanderthals may be disappointed, as virtually little of the actual find (which included over 800 fossils) is on display.
- Although it is one of the world's richest Neanderthal sites and has considerable scientific relevance, much of the find was bone pieces, making it not the most thrilling show for the public.

Krapina-Zagorje Off the Beaten Track
Baroque Church & Franciscan Monastery
- The Erdödy brothers, a noble family, built this 17th-century baroque church in the middle of town in 1630.
- The nearby Franciscan monastery houses two restored Erdödy family sarcophagi, elaborate baroque finds found in the crypt.
- Please make plans to see them through the tourism bureau.
Varaždin Cemetery
- This tranquil horticultural gem, constructed by Viennese architect Hermann Helmer in 1905, is a 10-minute walk west of Stari Grad.
- Wander among tombstones, avenues, promenades, and over 7000 trees, including magnolia, beech, and birch.
Cathedral of the Assumption
- This former Jesuit church was built in 1646 and is located southeast of Trg Kralja Tomislava.
- The front is highlighted by an early baroque portal carrying the noble Drakovi family's coat of arms.

Krapina-Zagorje Culture and Traditions
- The events promoting the Kajkavian dialect and heritage are organized by Krapina and Krapina-Zagorje County authorities.
- Mayor Zoran Gregurovi stated during a news conference during the week that the Week of the Kajkavian Culture "is the most significant event in the Kajkavian-speaking area."
- The Week of Kajkavian Culture culminates in a three-day festival of songs in the local dialect, which concludes on September 10.
- Croatian Zagorje is a tiny area with pleasant nature filled with lush foliage and water.

- It is famed for its superb goat cheese and oven-baked child goat and is run by a local family that has been in the goat-breeding industry for centuries.
