The Best Places to Visit in Zell am See
The Old Town
- Zell am See, on Lake Zell's western shore, is a small town that can be explored in half an hour.
- There are numerous attractive buildings with colourful wall paintings and balcony flowers.
- Special mention should be made of St. Hippolyte's Church and the Grand Hotel.
- The 36-meter-high church tower dominates the market square skyline, while the hotel dominates the shoreline in front of the town.
Around Lake Zell
- Hiking or cycling around the lake is one of the best summer activities in Zell am See.
- The circular route is slightly more than 11 kilometres long, and many places pass close to the lake.
- You can cycle around the lake twice from our campsite in Bruck a der Großglocknerstraße, joining the Tauern Cycle Trail, which connects to the lake trail.
- While 11 kilometres may appear to be a long distance, the terrain is mostly flat. On the eastern shore, there are only one or two small hills.
- There are numerous rest stops along the way as well. You can stop for a swim, a drink, or take in the scenery.
Go Swimming
- Swimming opportunities abound during your Zell am See summer holiday.
- The most popular swimming areas around Lake Zell are known as Lidos.
- There are three Lidos, the largest of which is near the Grand Hotel in the old town.
- It has heated pools, a dive tower, a waterslide, showers, and restrooms.
- In general, there is no fee to swim in Lake Zell. An excellent public swimming area is near the Seecamp campsite on the northern shore.
- The water temperature in the summer is around 23 °C. Regarding water quality, and some locals insist it is safe to drink.
- Bruck a der Großglocknerstraße, the campsite, is a 10-minute drive away.

Zell am See Off the Beaten Track
Visit Kaprun
- Kaprun has a fantastic array of attractions to suit all tastes for a small Alpine village.
- The Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which lies in the shadow of the same-named summit, is undoubtedly the largest of them all.
- It can be seen from Zell am See at 3,200 metres. While the mountains undoubtedly attract more hikers in the summer, a few ski slopes are open all year.
- The Maiskogel alpine coaster is a popular family attraction close to town.
- On a rainy day, the Vötter's Oldtimer Museum is full of gleaming old cars to cheer up the boys in your company.
- They happened upon it on an afternoon drive to find something to do on a fantastic day.
- A stroll through Kaprun led us to the picturesque village church perched on a hill.
The Werfen Ice Caves
- Only 60 kilometres from Zell am See the world's largest ice caves.
- This, also known as the Eisriesenwelt, are a natural wonder that should be noticed if you are in the area.
- It's an adventure just getting to the mouth of the caves via two short hikes and Austria's steepest cable car ride.
- The temperature inside the caves is zero degrees Celsius, making it one of the best summer activities near Zell am See.

- The Kitzsteinhorn glacier has an extra-long freestyle season with 100% snow reliability: you can start the season with kickers, rails, and boxes as early as October when the experienced shaper team opens the legendary Glacier Park on the glacier plateau.
- The Easy Park and the Central Park (including the South-Central Park) are also open in the winter and provide perfectly shaped and creatively designed shredding setups.
- The superpipe, which spans 150 metres and has walls as high as 6.5 metres, is another highlight of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
