The Best Places to Visit in Graz
Schlossberg
- The Schlossberg, a tree-covered hill that initially served as a fortification and is now a public park, is one of Graz's most recognisable landmarks, standing boldly in the city's centre.
- The Schlossberg has a long history, dating back to the 10th century, and has served as a critical fortification and defence point for the city.
- The distinctive clock tower, one of Graz's great attractions, is now all that remains.
- The Schlossberg includes a lovely garden and an elegant series of steps that wind their way up the side of the hill, providing excellent views of the city.
Schlossberg Clock Tower
- The Clock Tower, which stands on the renowned Schlossberg Hill and can be seen from many parts of Graz, has remained steadfastly for hundreds of years and has become a symbol of Graz and its history.
- With its dazzling white walls, broad overhanging wooden balcony part, and tiled pointed roof, the tower has a remarkable design dating back to the 15th century.
- The clock mechanism is now electronic, and the minute and hour hands are inverted due to later upgrades, which may be highly confusing.
- This structure is a marvel and a must-see in Graz, and it's also fun to hear the bells ringing, which were once used to warn people of fires or even executions!
Eggenberg Palace
- As a symbol of Styria's once-mighty and prominent area, Eggenberg Palace has a significant historical and cultural significance in Graz and Austria.
- The palace, located in the Eggenberg neighbourhood of Graz, is surrounded by beautiful parkland and gardens and functioned as a statement of the Styrian monarchs' power and wealth.
- The elaborately decorated staterooms, including the remarkable planetary room with frescos, the Planetary Garden, and the Pavilion, are all worth seeing.
- Eggenberg Palace is a must-see for everyone interested in learning about Styria's and Austria's history.

The Styrian Armoury
- The Styrian Armoury will fascinate anyone interested in historical armaments and weapons of war; it has the world's most incredible collection of arms and armour, with over 30,000 items.
- Because the region of Styria was historically one of the primary sites of battle with the Ottoman empire, a state armoury was built to arm the people.
- The surviving weaponry and armour are currently displayed in the original structure, forming a magnificent collection.
- The armoury is massive, with racks of spears and pikes, shelves of rifles and pistols, and stacks of full suits of armour and artillery such as cannons and mortars.
Herz-Jesu-Kirche
- This impressive Neogothic structure stands out (in a good way!).
- This relatively new church is located a bit to the east of Graz city centre and should be high on your list of things to see.
- The church's stunning facade, built in the 1800s and featuring a contrasting orange and white colour scheme, is a homage to prior decades' gothic styles.
- The bell tower is Austria's third tallest, with a pointed green roof above it.

Graz: Food, Fun & Fashion Guide
Styrian Fried Chicken
#Food
- Although fried chicken (Backhendl) is available across Austria, the Styrian version stands head and shoulders above the rest.
- Styrian fried chicken (Steirisches Backhendl) is not just my favourite regional cuisine but also one of the best foods I've ever had.
- It is made out of chicken pieces that have been spiced and lemon juiced, then breaded and deep-fried till golden and crispy.
Verhackert
#Food
- Verhackert, a famous and tasty spread comparable to bacon jam, is another real Styrian delicacy.
- It's made with smoked, finely diced bacon, salt, minced garlic, and occasionally even pumpkin seed oil.
- This bacon-rich spread is sometimes available in the form of plastic-encased sausages, and it's even less common in cans or jars.
- Verhackert, one of the Styrian cuisine's finest comfort meals, is best served cold as an appetiser with bread.
- Verhackert is commonly served as part of the well-known Brettljausen and is best served with thick slices of dark bread.
Styrian Wines
#Food
- Styria's favourite alcoholic beverage is a tie between wine and beer.
- Styrian wine is primarily white, but there are some superb reds.
- On the endless, undulating steep slopes of the rolling hills in the strikingly picturesque region of Southern Styria, the best wines of Styria are produced.
- Welschriesling, Traminer, Gewürztraminer, Morillon, and Weissburgunder are some of the most well-known Styrian wines.
- These wines have the essential characteristics of crisp white wine, with citrus and flowery flavours and a cleansing acidity that races across the tongue.
Moorpark Shopping Center
#Fashion
- Moorpark Shopping Center, located on Ostbahnstraße, is a massive, hard-to-miss shopping and entertainment complex.
- Several local boutiques, department stores such as Kastner & hler, and worldwide brand stores like Esprit, Bonita, H&M, Hollister, and others may be found at Liebenau's favourite shopping destination.
- Moorpark will have you spoilt for choice, whether you're looking for a show-stopping costume, flashy accessories, or something adorable for the kids.
- McDonald's, Buddha Asia Restaurant, and La Fleur, to name a few, are among the prominent restaurants and cafes in the retail area.
City Centre
#Fashion
- The Herrengasse, which runs between Jakominiplatz and Hauptplatz, is Graz's primary shopping route.
- This neighbourhood has practically everything you need for everyday life and some international stores such as H&M, New Yorker, and others.
- Next to the Hauptplatz lies the large department store "Kastner & hler," which is noted for its extensive fashion selection and its pompous architecture and rooftop café.
- A modest mall containing Eurospar is located in the basement. Kastner & Hler offers an online store as well.
Shopping City Seiersberg
#Fashion
- With over 200 shops, Shopping City Seiersberg lives up to its moniker as the largest mall in the Graz area.
- It is convenient to reach there by automobile because it is located adjacent to highway A9.
- Bus line 78 is the best way to travel to the Shopping City by public transportation.
- Because this line does not begin in the city centre, you can either take tram 5 to Puntigam and change to bus 78 there or take bus 32 to Seiersberg and change to 78 there.
- It may appear complex, but it is well worth the trip because it has everything.
Adventure Park Graz
#Fun
- The Graz Adventure Park is an excellent opportunity to leave the city and take a break from sightseeing (not that Graz isn't a fantastic place to visit!).

Graz: Natural Beauty & Safari Adventures
- Hilmteich maybe your favourite place in Graz if you are an energetic, sports-loving individual.
- You can go on a lake cruise (which can be pretty romantic, especially if accompanied by a picnic! ), climb in the nearby Erlebnispark (adventure park), or put on your jogging shoes and hit the forest trails in the surrounding Leechwald.
- All of this is within a short distance from the city centre.
- April-November, the adventure park is open. Tuesday-Friday 2pm-7pm; Saturday-Sunday 10am-7pm
- It is probably the most excellent park in Graz for kids because of the ample greenery, hedges, and hills and because the Frida & free children's museum is here to keep them entertained.
- You can also watch cyclists stopping along the Murradweg (the Mur is the name of the nearby river).
- After a walk, you may unwind at the Augartenbad swimming pools, just a short distance away.
