A Sneak Peek into Tokyo

destination - Seasons to travel
  • Holidays to Tokyo is not for the weak of the heart. Japan's capital city is always changing and growing, making it a thrilling attack on the senses.
  • It's full of different places like sleek steel-clad buildings, neon-lit shopping malls, great sushi restaurants and karaoke bars open all night.
  • There are, however, beautiful parks, shrines that are hundreds of years old and interesting museums that show every period of Japanese history.
  • There are so many things to see and do in Tokyo holidays that the hardest part of your trip will be fitting it all in with the Tokyo city break holidays.
  • Shinjuku is home to many of the best hotels in the city. You can find some of the world's tallest and most beautiful buildings here along with the city's best shopping area and get the best Tokyo hotel prices on your holiday.
  • It's also a great place to go out at night because it's Tokyo's main entertainment area. Right next door, Shibuya is where Harajuku started as the wild street style that Japan's fashion-forward teens and young adults love.
  • Kids here wear a wide range of unique hairstyles and clothes. They are all bright, lively and very different from each other.
  • The area is also known for its cool bars, quirky shops, and street art that looks great on Instagram.
  • One of the oldest parts of Tokyo is Asakusa, which is known for its old churches. That place is a way to get away from everything.
  • Senso-ji, the most popular temple in the city, is the most well-known place to see here. The Imperial Palace is another place you can see to learn more about Tokyo's history.
  • Since this is the Emperor's home most of it is off-limits to visitors. However tours of some sites are available. You could also take a walk through the beautiful East Garden which is a nice break from the noise and confusion of the city.
  • Of course you don't have to stay in Tokyo the whole time you're there. Also there are many day trips to think about.
  • You might want to go to Hakone, which is in the mountains and has a lot of hot springs and great views of Mount Fuji or you could spend some time at the beach in Kamakura. Have fun in Tokyo!
  • If you have kids with you, why not take them to Disneyland to meet Mickey and Minnie? Plus, you can make your Tokyo Disneyland holiday packages, including flights, into a multi-centre trip if you want to go even further and see other parts of the country with Our Holiday Vibes are Good Vibes Only!

Top Tourist Attractions in Tokyo

destination - Seasons to travel
  • Tokyo is a busy city. It has the most people of any megalopolis in the world. Its urban area is also called Greater Tokyo. Visitors might feel a bit confused for the first time, but it doesn't take long for the real Tokyo holidays from UK.
  • Tokyo has a strangely calm vibe. The daily dance of Tokyo residents is the quiet movement of people taking buses, subways, and trains. The centre of a Japanese city is a trip through history, culture, and current life. Ancient temples and modern towers with neon lights can be found together. Many parks are nice places to relax. Tokyo holidays is a gem, not just a city.
  • If you want to understand this city's size, look for something high once you get there. You can see the city from the Tokyo Skytree, Ikebukuro Sunshine City, Mori Tower, Shibuya Scramble Square, Tokyo Tower, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, which you can enter for free with our Tokyo all inclusive deals.
  • There are parks in Tokyo for family holidays, green islands, shrines and temples in the middle of the Japanese city. Both Japanese people and tourists go there to relax during the day and at night. This is true for Yopogi Park's Meiji Jingu. You can get in through the biggest porch (otori) in Japan. There, you can buy an omikuji to find out what it says. You could also visit Ueno Park, Yoyogi-kōen, or Shinjuku Gyon National Garden.
  • This well-known fish market in Tokyo has closed. The Toyosu, on the same-named island in the Koto area east of the city centre, has taken its place. The new fish market is clean and up-to-date, but it doesn't have the same charm as the old one. But the Japanese city has more than one food market. You can buy high-end goods and eat at the Roppongi Hills Market and the nearby Farmer's Market in Shibuya.
  • Shinjuku's Golden Gai is famous for its narrow streets and many small bars. You'll finally find a friendly place even if some only have a few seats or are open to regulars. In Shibuya, you can find some of the best clubs in the city, like Sound Museum Vision. Another way to experience traditional Japanese culture is to attend a traditional show. There is polished and poetic lyrical drama in Noh Theatre, kabuki, a dramatic show, and even wadaiko, a Japanese drum style with drums that can be more than 90 cm in diameter! A real accomplishment.
  • Trips to Tokyo, the districts of Yanaka and Nezu, were lucky enough to escape the 1923 earthquake and the 1945 bombings. There are wooden houses, art studios, old shopfronts and vintage cafes. The nearby Asakusa is just as lovely. You will see low buildings, old shops and streets that wind around. You will also see the futuristic 634-meter Skytree Tower which was built in 2012 and, on clear days, gives you a view of Mount Fuji.
  • Harajuku is a cool area in the busy Shibuya metro area. It's a land of young and old cosplayers dressed up as famous characters. It's a fashion and trend lab full of wild and golden young people. Shibuya Crossing, one of the busiest crossings in the world, is a well-known spot in the area. About 2,500 people walk at each green light, for a total of 2.4 million people daily. Walk along the train station or stop by Starbucks to see the show. There is free room for you to use.
  • It may be hard to quickly get from one neighbourhood to the next to all the best spots because the city is so big. Takashimaya Times Square is the best place to start shopping in Shinjuku. The majority of shops in Ginza are high-end boutiques. At Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi you can find Japanese food and goods made by hand. Honkaku Quest and Omitesando Hills are great places for young people to find new things. One thing that might surprise you about Shibuya is how many record shops are among the department stores and boutiques.

Best Months to Visit Tokyo

destination - Seasons to travel
  • March through April and September through November are the best times to visit holidays in Tokyo. The leaves turn colours, and the weather gets nice in the autumn.
  • Spring brings many of the same things, but instead of bright autumn colours, you'll see cherry blossom trees in full bloom, the busiest time for tourists and Disneyland Tokyo holidays.
  • In contrast, summer is unbearably hot but not as busy as spring. It can also rain a lot during some parts of June and July.
  • On the other hand, winter is cold (highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the mid-30s) but still bearable.
  • However, you won't be able to enjoy Tokyo's parks during this time of year fully.

The Best Places to Visit in Tokyo

Senso-Ji Temple

  • Sensōji is a Buddhist temple in Asakusa, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple. It is one of the most colourful and well-known shrines on a trip to Tokyo.
  • In 628, two brothers were fishing when they pulled a statue of Kannon the goddess of kindness, out of the Sumida River.
  • The statue always returned to them, even after they put it back in the river. Because of this, Sensoji was built close to Kannon, the goddess of Buddhism.
  • The temple is the oldest in Tokyo. It was finished in 645. As people walk up to the temple, they first go through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the outer gate of Sensoji Temple and a sign of Asakusa and Tokyo.
  • From the outside gate to the temple's second gate, the Hozomon, is a shopping street more than 200 meters long. It is called Nakamise.
destination - Seasons to travel

Imperial Palace

  • The current Imperial Palace KōkyŁ is built on the site of the old Edo Castle.
  • It is in the middle of Tokyo, near Tokyo Station, in a big park with moats and huge stone walls. It is where Japan's Imperial Family lives.
  • The Tokugawa ruler, who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867, lived in Edo Castle.
  • The shogunate was overthrown in 1868, and Kyoto was turned into Tokyo, which became the country's centre and home of the Emperor.
  • In 1888, work on a new Imperial Palace was finished. In the years after World War II, the palace was rebuilt in the same way as the first one.
destination - Seasons to travel

Shibuya

  • Do you remember a scene from the well-known movie Lost in Translation?
  • It is, after all filmed in Tokyo, which is very accessible!
  • The famous Shibuya crossing is right before JR Shibuya, where thousands of people cross and meet daily.
  • Another popular tourist attraction is the Hachiko Statue, located right next to it.
  • We believe everyone is familiar with the heartbreaking story of Hachiko who waits for his master every day, even after he has died.
  • You can take a picture with Hachiko to remember the event before you jump into the middle of the crowd at Shibuya Crossing.
destination - Seasons to travel

Tsukiji Fish Market

  • The Tsukiji Outer Market is a neighbourhood next to where the Tsukiji Wholesale Market used to be experience it with our cheap holidays to Tokyo.
  • It comprises a few blocks of restaurants, wholesale and retail shops, and small lanes crowded with people.
  • You can buy fresh and cooked fish, fruits and vegetables here and food-related items like knives.
  • You go to Tsukiji Outer Market with our Tokyo package deals; you should get fresh sushi for breakfast or lunch at one of the nearby restaurants.
  • These places are usually open from 5 a.m to noon or early afternoon.
  • Tsukiji Outer Market is one of the best places in Tokyo to eat fresh seafood because most fish served and sold there comes straight from Toyosu Market.
destination - Seasons to travel

Ginza

  • The Ginza is Tokyo's most famous high-end shopping, eating, and entertainment area, so check out our Tokyo tour package.
  • It has many department stores, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, nightclubs, and coffee shops.
  • Land in the middle of the area is one of Japan's most expensive places to buy. A square metre of land there is worth over ten million yen.
  • According to the Japanese, Ginza ("silver mint") was the site of a silver coin mint from 1612 to 1800.
  • After the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, the Ginza became a high-end buying area. Many stores in Ginza are open every day of the week.
  • The best time to go is in the afternoon on the weekends when the main street of Chuo Dori is closed to cars and turned into a big pedestrian area.
  • From noon to eight o'clock (til seven o'clock from October to March), the road is closed.

Shinjuku

  • But most people call the big entertainment, business, and shopping area around Shinjuku Station "Shinjuku."
  • One of Tokyo's 23 city wards is Shinjuku. More than two million people use Shinjuku Station daily, making it the busiest train station in the world.
  • The JR Yamanote Line is one of the twelve train and underground lines that go through it. Shibuya is also a major stop for long distance highway buses in Tokyo.
  • On top of the train station is Busta Shinjuku, a big bus hub that is very handy. The skyscraper area in Shinjuku is west of the station.
  • It is home to many of Tokyo's tallest buildings, such as several high-end hotels and the free observation decks on the twin towers of the Metropolitan Government Office.
  • Kabukicho, Japan's biggest and wildest red light district, is northeast of the station.
  • On all four sides of Shinjuku Station, including the rebuilt Southern Terrace, are department stores, underground malls, and electronics stores.

Roppongi

  • There are a lot of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs in Tokyo's Roppongi district that are popular with foreigners.
  • It is known as the city's best nightlife area for foreigners. Many embassies and an international community live in and around Roppongi and the nearby Azabu, Hiroo, and Akasaka neighbourhoods.
  • Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown, two of Tokyo's biggest recent redevelopment projects, changed the district's look in the 2000s.
  • Their elegant retail, business, residential space and luxury hotels made Roppongi more appealing to a wider range of tourists and residents.
  • Roppongi has also become known as a culture hub since several art museums have opened there. It is one of Japan's biggest art museums, and you can experience it with Tokyo holidays all inclusive.
  • The "Art Triangle Roppongi" comprises the National Art Centre, the Mori Art Museum on Roppongi Hills, and the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo Midtown.
destination - Seasons to travel

Nihonbashi

  • The Tokyo trip package to Nihonbashi is in the Tokyo area north of Ginza, close enough to walk to Tokyo Station.
  • Since the early Edo Period, the bridge, also the district's name, has been the starting point for Japan's national highway network.
  • The Nihonbashi was a wooden bridge, but it was rebuilt out of stone during the Meiji Period. In the 1960s, a motorway was built over it.
  • In the Edo-Tokyo Museum in Ryogoku, there is a partial 1:1 copy of the original wooden bridge that you can walk across.
  • At Haneda Airport, the International Terminal has a half-sized replica of the bridge that connects the fourth and fifth floors.
