We ate lunch and breakfast here on a few occasions, but nothing compared to when we sat and photographed Zanzibari life.
The Zanzibar Coffee House roasts its coffee and provides everything from cafe lattes to veggie chapati wraps.
When you enter the café, you'll feel like you've been transported to an old Arabic coffee shop.
This is a must-see even if you don't drink coffee. If you want to do some shopping, stop by Upendo, located across the street.
Upendo employs the local women and teaches them to sew beautiful clothing through education.
We came here searching for unusual clothing and jewellery for men and women at a reasonable price a few times.

Zanzibar Off the Beaten Track

Kilindi

Kilindi is a lovely property in Zanzibar. It's part of Elewana, a well-known chain of hotels and resorts in East Africa.
Originally privately owned and built as the next big thing on the island, Elewana purchased Kilindi after its opening was delayed due to a lack of funding.
The management at Kilindi has put a lot of work into transforming an unfinished property into one of Zanzibar's best two-person lodging options.
The pavilions are set on the beach and have everything you need for your stay—two private plunge pools, expansive bathrooms and bedrooms, and spectacular vistas.
There's also a family pavilion that sleeps up to six people. It's one of our favourite places in Zanzibar, thanks to the consistently high quality of service—the staff is friendly, helpful, and always willing to go above and beyond for their guests.

Mnemba Island

If you're looking for a tropical paradise, look no further than the island of Mnemba.
It's one of the most beautiful spots in Tanzania and is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Zanzibar.
Described by travel writers as one of the best beaches in the world, if not Africa, Mnemba is a place that evokes feelings of long-lost adventure, nature at its finest, and a rugged getaway that can't be found elsewhere.
Mnemba is also known for its pristine coral reef just off the shoreline.
This is particularly unusual because it's in a region where coral is typically bleached and dead due to pollution from nearby islands—not so on Mnemba.
The lack of pollution also means that many species of fish are found nowhere else on Earth.
In addition to being home to several species of endangered marine life, the water is crystal clear and rich in colour—it has a deep blue hue that makes snorkelling feel like swimming around in a kaleidoscope.
The beach belongs to a resort called Beyond, which owns and operates the restaurant on site. The staff is friendly and professional, but at an astronomical price. You're paying for all.

Zanzibar is a former coastal trading city and now a seaport, along with being the capital of the Zanzibar group of islands that includes Unguja, Pemba, and many others.
It is the biggest and most developed city in Tanzania, situated off the eastern coast of Africa, on the Indian Ocean. As a matter of culture, social relations, and beliefs, Zanzibar is predominantly a Muslim society belonging to the Sunni branch of Islam; however, the island hosts very many Christian sects, Hindus, and other minor religions as well.
In some ways, Zanzibar is quite progressive for a majority Muslim country, though it has a very interesting history.
The cultural hotspot is characterised by beautiful beaches, spice farms, and the old historic city of Stone Town, which has a strong affinity for the Arabic region.
Pain was earlier famous for spices, so the African inhabitants of the island were later joined by Arabian traders who introduced Islam to the island’s people.
From there on out, it was history-making time—many diverse cultures arrived—the Portuguese, for instance, would govern the Indian Ocean whenever they dropped by.

On the island, Jozani jungle becomes rather easy to lose and miss the monkeys, though not at all hard to find as most nature trails run through beautiful forested areas, so after crossing to the other side of the road to get to Jozani, make sure you visit the Mangrove Forest.

This was the first food festival in Stone Town, Zanzibar, to garner such a number and diversity of restaurants and sellers.
