Best Months to Visit Zanzibar
- The dry season comes from June to September. That being the case, the probability of having a bright day is as high as it can get.
- This is actually the highest season for tourists to visit Zanzibar, and therefore expect to pay heavily for your accommodation.
- This is because, as it will be seen in the later part, Zanzibar lies close to the equator, making it almost always sunny during the holiday.
- Nevertheless, April and May are considered rainy seasons, and you ought to expect downpours.
- These months are flooded, and unfortunately many of the hotels will be unavailable to offer their services. You will most likely have nice weather, though I clearly see myself getting rained over these months.

House of Wonders
- If you're looking for a cheap holiday in Zanzibar, it's a must-see the Palace of Wonders.
- The House of Wonders and Palace Museum, both iconic features of Stone Town's world-renowned seafront area, depict the centuries-long cultural and architectural influences of Zanzibar, Britain, Portugal, and Oman.
- The House of Wonders was once East Africa's most modern structure, with electricity and an elevator, and it combines elements of European style and Zanzibari tradition.
- Such as cast-iron columns, complicated door carvings, coral rags, open central courtyards, and mangrove ceilings to create a truely unique architectural success.
- Next to it's far the Palace Museum, integrated 1883 by the second one Sultan of Zanzibar.
- A marble archway links these two buildings on the waterfront promenade, connecting the two parts of Stone Town's historical centre.

Spice Tour
- Zanzibar is a beautiful and exotic island with a lot to offer guests interested in learning more about the spice farming process and, most importantly, in tasting the final products.
- All inclusive Spice Island Tours depart from the historic Stone Town area and take you to the spice farm, where you will meet with a guide who will explain the indigenous species of Zanzibar's spices.
- Spice farms produce cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, and cocoa.
- For those who want to bring home some of these exotic flavours from today's tour, it's best to get extra cash because while many local hotels sell spices in their gift shops, they may not have everything you're looking for.
- However, you will be able to sample different spices at the end of your tour, so make sure you come with an empty stomach!
The Zanzibar Coffee House
- This Zanzibar Cafe is just next to Emerson Spice in the heart of Stone Town, and it's one of those must-see Zanzibar attractions.
- We ate lunch and breakfast here on a few occasions, but nothing compared to when we sat and photographed Zanzibari life.
- The Zanzibar Coffee House roasts its coffee and provides everything from cafe lattes to veggie chapati wraps.
- When you enter the café, you'll feel like you've been transported to an old Arabic coffee shop.
- This is a must-see even if you don't drink coffee. If you want to do some shopping, stop by Upendo, located across the street.
- Upendo employs the local women and teaches them to sew beautiful clothing through education.
- We came here searching for unusual clothing and jewellery for men and women at a reasonable price a few times.

Zanzibar Off the Beaten Track
Kilindi
- Kilindi is a lovely property in Zanzibar. It's part of Elewana, a well-known chain of hotels and resorts in East Africa.
- Originally privately owned and built as the next big thing on the island, Elewana purchased Kilindi after its opening was delayed due to a lack of funding.
- The management at Kilindi has put a lot of work into transforming an unfinished property into one of Zanzibar's best two-person lodging options.
- The pavilions are set on the beach and have everything you need for your stay—two private plunge pools, expansive bathrooms and bedrooms, and spectacular vistas.
- There's also a family pavilion that sleeps up to six people. It's one of our favourite places in Zanzibar, thanks to the consistently high quality of service—the staff is friendly, helpful, and always willing to go above and beyond for their guests.
Mnemba Island
- If you're looking for a tropical paradise, look no further than the island of Mnemba.
- It's one of the most beautiful spots in Tanzania and is located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Zanzibar.
- Described by travel writers as one of the best beaches in the world, if not Africa, Mnemba is a place that evokes feelings of long-lost adventure, nature at its finest, and a rugged getaway that can't be found elsewhere.
- Mnemba is also known for its pristine coral reef just off the shoreline.
- This is particularly unusual because it's in a region where coral is typically bleached and dead due to pollution from nearby islands—not so on Mnemba.
- The lack of pollution also means that many species of fish are found nowhere else on Earth.
- In addition to being home to several species of endangered marine life, the water is crystal clear and rich in colour—it has a deep blue hue that makes snorkelling feel like swimming around in a kaleidoscope.
- The beach belongs to a resort called Beyond, which owns and operates the restaurant on site. The staff is friendly and professional, but at an astronomical price. You're paying for all.

CULTURE & TRADITIONS
Zanzibar Culture and Traditions
- Zanzibar is a former coastal trading city and now a seaport, along with being the capital of the Zanzibar group of islands that includes Unguja, Pemba, and many others.
- It is the biggest and most developed city in Tanzania, situated off the eastern coast of Africa, on the Indian Ocean. As a matter of culture, social relations, and beliefs, Zanzibar is predominantly a Muslim society belonging to the Sunni branch of Islam; however, the island hosts very many Christian sects, Hindus, and other minor religions as well.
- In some ways, Zanzibar is quite progressive for a majority Muslim country, though it has a very interesting history.
- The cultural hotspot is characterised by beautiful beaches, spice farms, and the old historic city of Stone Town, which has a strong affinity for the Arabic region.
- Pain was earlier famous for spices, so the African inhabitants of the island were later joined by Arabian traders who introduced Islam to the island’s people.
- From there on out, it was history-making time—many diverse cultures arrived—the Portuguese, for instance, would govern the Indian Ocean whenever they dropped by.
- Go to Zanzibar and discover its history and markets.
- When the British replaced Portugal as the western power, they replaced Portugal. Such are evident today in the architectural designs of Stone Town and in the culture of the island.

- The cuisines on the island are a fusion of African, Arab, and Indian cultures, making the food offerings on the island very exciting.
- Food lovers should not fail to visit the night markets, where traders sell traditional dishes and a variety of deserts to tap into Zanzibar’s food scene.

- Zanzibar fashion is active, and while it is dominated by the traditional Swahili dress or drones of boubous, they are adapted to the contemporary style.

- Today’s tourists may shop for trendy beachwear and resort clothes appropriate for the weather and the atmosphere of the island.

Zanzibar: Natural Beauty & Safari Adventures
- Cultural and natural beauty are two primary aspects you can embrace as you organise your Zanzibar holidays.
- Jozani Forest is one of the best and most famous destination spots in Zanzibar for tourism.
- The Zanzibar red colobus monkey is also another of the world’s endangered species that still dwells in the jungle.
- As I mentioned earlier, it is the only natural habitat in the world where these monkeys can be found.
- It has a history of destruction through accidents; for example, in the past it has been years of being cleared and so damaged.
- However, much has been done by conservationists in reviving its vigour and revealing its side that has not been seen by many of the local people and tourists.
- That it is a gruesome wake of destruction that man has compelled upon nature dominion.
- On the island, Jozani jungle becomes rather easy to lose and miss the monkeys, though not at all hard to find as most nature trails run through beautiful forested areas, so after crossing to the other side of the road to get to Jozani, make sure you visit the Mangrove Forest.
- Zanzibar Island is a nature and adventure lover’s retreat.
- Zanzibar trip of a lifetime with cultural and nature.
- Zanzibar tour packages to explore the island’s hidden gems.
- Virgin Holidays Zanzibar for bespoke holiday packages.
